Leap for PM Part 1

Hello,

An early newsletter today...this very special day. Like Oliver Reed in his prime, it comes round only once every four years.

Today, hundreds and hundreds of PM listeners have told us they're taking a Leap for PM. Hundreds more, I suspect, are doing their own thing.

In PM tonight, we'll hear about some of them, and tomorrow we'll report back in comprehensive fashion on all those we've featured on air.

There will be two presenters on the programme tonight. Me (I'm Eddie Mair) and the BBC's business editor (Robert Peston) with whom I have had a long-running bitter angry blood feud. In the spirit of the day, we're both putting all that behind us and Robert will be co-presenting for the entire hour.

You can follow my thoughts on the day on my twitter account(@eddiemair) and on Robert's (@peston).

And what about this email that came in at 10.30 last night....I've taken out the names and the location!

"Driving home from work on the 10th of feb and hearing your leap for PM item I thought I too should take a leap. Having been living with my partner for 12 years, post 2 children, getting married has never been a priority to either of us. But your programme inspired us to take the leap.

We booked the registry office, booked a fancy meal for 6 and told nobody, until tonight, the 28th. Over supper tonight we told both sets of parents (gathered under false pretences) that they were being given 15 hours of notice for the upcoming nuptials. You could hear a pin drop, but soon champagne was flowing freely.

So tomorrow at 11 in a registry office in front of our parents, children and wonderful nanny we shall tie the knot before retiring for a slap up meal. We shall send you the pictures.

But thank you, PM"

Just a warning - there will be a second newsletter later in the day written by Robert, just as soon as he shows up.

Eric Peston.
