Wednesday's Newsletter

Hello,

A majority of doctors have voted in favour of taking industrial action over changes to their pensions. The BMA says doctors will take industrial action on June 21st.

Also in the programme, should officials of the Syrian government be allowed into the UK for the Olympics? I've just been hearing from a foreign office minister.

At the Leveson inquiry today: Vince Cable and Kenneth Clarke. Peter Hunt will have his digest of the day for you. We'll also tell you why Andy Coulson has been detained by police and taken to Glasgow.

I'm aware that the newsletter yesterday was so terribly serious that it probably got you down. I am now going onto the internet in search of something to cheer us all up. Stand by.

OK - try this: <http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lFsuDlCFm4Q>

And it's goodbye from me.

Tuesday's PM Newsletter

Hello.

Well, I can't promise you many smiles in the programme. We'll discuss Syria, rape in war, and earthquake in northern Italy, drownings and the case of Emma Winnall. You'll remember the photographs of her badly bruised face. At the age of 93 she was subjected to an assault in her home in Moseley in Birmingham nearly a month ago. She suffered a fractured skull and broken arm

Emma died this morning from complications arising from her injuries.

Superintendent Richard Baker, from West Midlands Police, said: "This is desperately sad news. Our condolences go out to Emma's family and friends. Clearly, this has now become a murder inquiry."

We'll see you at five.

PM Newsletter

Hello,

Tony Blair is giving evidence to the Leveson Inquiry as I type. Tomorrow: Michael Gove and Theresa May. Wednesday: Vince Cable. Thursday: Jeremy Hunt. Friday: Liza Minnelli.

I've just checked my notes and Liza will NOT be appearing before the Leveson inquiry, but all the others are scheduled. Each night, Peter Hunt will have PM's comprehensive coverage of the whole day's proceedings.

The retired footballer Sol Campbell has warned fans to 'stay away' from Euro 2012. We'll have a report.

Syria will be on the programme in some form. Here is the latest copy just filed by Associated Press:

"BEIRUT (AP) - Special envoy Kofi Annan said Monday he was horrified by a gruesome weekend massacre that killed more than 100 people in Syria, and called on "every individual with a gun" to lay down arms and stop the killing. Annan arrived in Damascus Monday for talks with Syrian President Bashar Assad and other senior officials. "I have come to Syria at a critical moment in this crisis," Annan said as he arrived in Damascus on Monday. "I am personally shocked and horrified by the tragic incident in Houla." He called on all sides of the conflict to end the bloodshed. "This message of peace is ... for everyone, for every individual with a gun," he said. The mass killings Friday in Houla, a collection of villages in the central province of Homs, prompted sweeping international criticism of the Syrian regime, although differences emerged from world powers over whether his forces were exclusively to blame. Syria's strong ally, Russia, said both the regime and the rebels wer
e to blame.
"Both sides have obviously had a hand in the deaths of innocent people, including several dozen women and children," Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said Monday. "This area is controlled by the rebels, but it is also surrounded by the governmental troops."
Lavrov spoke after talks with visiting British Foreign Secretary William Hague in Moscow.
Syria has strongly denied allegations that its forces carried out the killings, but the U.N. Security Council after an emergency session Sunday condemned government forces for shelling residential areas."

See you at 5,

Eric.

PM Newsletter

Hello.

I'm about to record an interview with Alex Salmond. Also in the programme, Adam Smith at the Leveson inquiry. By the way, it will be quite a week next week with - among others - Jeremy Hunt and Tony Blair. Book your seat for the best coverage from Peter Hunt on PM each night from 5.

We'll talk about Greece, we have some Olympics news and of course Previously on PM. I'm wondering if you personally know anyone called Neil Armstrong (not the famous astronaut).

See you at 5,

Robert the Muir

Thursday's PM Newsletter

Hello,

In PM tonight: Neil Armstrong. Yes. Neil Armstrong. We'll hear from the man to whom Mr Armstrong gave a rare interview. You can see the whole thing here: http://www.cpaaustralia.com.au/cps/rde/xchg

If there is time to discuss anything else, there will be Peter Hunt at the Leveson inquiry where Frederic Michel is giving evidence as I type, and later we'll hear from Adam Smith.

The economy is in worse shape than we thought. But at least we're not Greece, eh? We'll hear from a family in Greece about what a day in their life is like.

Did I mention that Neil Armstrong will be on the programme tonight? We're also trying to find an archive clip of him but it may have to wait until tomorrow.

See you at 5,
Buzz Muir
